Round Sixteen vs Easts - Chipsy Wood Oval
For the penultimate home game, Souths invited the Easts Tigers to the Nest and with Souths needing to win to keep their final chances alive.
The day started well with victories in all Division One grades, with Simon McNeven chalking up his 300th for the club and his umpteenth try while doing so.
It was also Life Members and Sponsors Day, and while they were treated to Souths hospitality off the field, they were treated with a spectacle on the field.
Once again it was star-winger Dominic Lespierre, thrilling spectators with another darting run finished with scintillating speed to chalk up Souths only try of the first half, converted in testing conditions by Luke Everson. Unfortunately, Easts were quick to respond and the scores stayed locked into halftime.
With Quade Cooper on duty with Fox Sports for the ARU, Premier Colt Luke Everson, playing only his second game of Premier Rugby, stepped into fly-half and with an outstanding performance both in defence and attack, his inside pass put the flying Dominic Lespeirre through a gap for his second try for the match.
Dom is the leading try-scorer in Premier Grade (with 13 tries) and top try scorer overall (with 20 tries).
Unerring defence followed from both sides and with Easts only able to manage a late penalty to salvage a bonus point, Souths won 14-10.
The win leaves Souths still in touch of the finals, albeit dependent on other results falling our way.
All three Colts sides finished with wins making it a clean swoop for the Mighty Magpies.
