| VERY IMPORTANT!!
Everyone playing Rugby should have the highest level of private health insurance including top up cover. Do not rely on Medicare or your club. Souths cannot cover player’s medical expenses.
When a player signs his Club Registration and pays his fees, he is entitled to claim from the ARU Insurance Scheme. This insurance is only of any benefit for more serious injuries and even then, there are lots of conditions (e.g. $250 excess and non-Medicare expenses only).
All overseas players should have travel insurance from their own country which does not exclude Rugby and/or they should take out private health insurance here in Australia tailored to non-residents.
Registered players who hold a passport from a Reciprocal Health Care Country (UK, Sweden, Finland, Norway, Netherlands, Italy, Malta, New Zealand and Ireland) receive the equivalent benefits of a Medicare card but only in Public Hospital Emergency Rooms. You are not covered for General Practitioner visits etc. SO DO NOT JUST RELY ON THIS!
For further information on medical cover for Rugby players, please contact Don or Peter at the Club on (07) 3848 3215
Players often don’t think of the financial repercussions of an injury until it’s too late. Please take the time to set up an appropriate level of cover BEFORE you play (remember most insurance cover has a waiting period of a few months before the cover kicks in, so organise it well before pre-season training starts). |
